Extended School Year Program
PSD provides a Summer Day Program and Extended School Year (ESY) in July and August for students up to age 21 who reside in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. Extended School Year encompasses a range of options in providing programs in excess of the traditional 180-day school year. ESY is a way to maintain progress when issues of regression and recoupment are considerable over school breaks. ESY services are determined by a student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The Summer Day Program is operational in the Early Childhood Center Program (ECC) for children ages three through seven years. The purpose of the ECC Program is to provide young children a rich, fully accessible communication environment, with particular emphasis on exposure to and development of American Sign Language (ASL). The purpose of the ESY program for school-age students is the implementation of IEP goals.
PSD's summer program generally runs from July through August. It is a five week program operating from Monday - Thursday 9am - 2pm.
Staff hours are 8:30am - 3:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 8:30am - 2:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Individuals interested in working ESY must attend an Orientation prior to the start of the program.
