The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf
COMMUNITY EDUCATION: CCPS provides valuable education to the hearing community through its Deaf Awareness
presentations about deafness and Deaf Culture. In-service training programs are conducted for health and human service workers (police,
fire and hospital personnel) including assistance with sign language, use of TTYs for 9-1-1 operators, and special
deafness concerns related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
SPEECHREADING: Speechreading (lipreading) classes are provided at CCPS to individuals of all ages who are losing their hearing or those with significant
hearing loss who feel they can benefit from specialized speechreading instruction or coping strategies. Click on the link for more information

INDEPENDENT EVALUATION SERVICES: As a service to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation,
CCPS conducts independent psychological, educational, and other evaluations for both adults and children.
The evaluators are fluent in sign language and knowledgeable about deafness and Deaf Culture.
SOCIAL WORK SERVICES: Under contract with the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, CCPS provides social work services to families
with a deaf member and deemed to be at risk for abuse or neglect.
