Early Intervention

In 1986 CCPS initiated its Early Intervention (EI) Program,
a comprehensive collection of services including counseling,
parent education and language therapy offered free of charge
to newly diagnosed deaf/hard of hearing infants and toddlers (ages 0 – 3 years old) and
their families (parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts/uncles).
CCPS’ EI Program serves about 70 children and their families
per year. Referrals are generally from audiologists,
physicians, and social workers.
EI services are both Center and home-based with sign language instruction
and audiological services, and speech and auditory assistance offered free of
charge to all participants. Outreach services are provided on request to
other local daycare providers in dealing with deaf or hard of hearing children
up to the age of five. Children between the ages of 2 and 3 can enroll in
a special Transition Class at PSD to prepare them for regular school classes
after age three.
