Deaf Women and Girls' Health Awareness Website

Welcome to the Deaf Women and Girls' Health Awareness website. This project aims to improve Deaf women's access to health information and health education materials in American Sign Language and to train women to offer support and information in the community to other deaf people.     

Through the website, our goal is to provide a comprehensive web page that includes general yet vital information about women's health issues and links to other relevant health websites to assist Deaf women and girls in developing greater knowledge and making important decisions about their bodies. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women and Girls' Health project hopes to accomplish the following goals:

 

1) To increase awareness about women and girl health issues, which include but are not limited to birth control and family planning, heart disease, aging, breast and cervical cancer, eating disorders, stress management, and domestic violence.

2) To offer a comfortable and safe environment for Deaf women and girls to share their questions and concerns about various health issues in addition to learning about important health topics.

3) To make accessible existing health information offered by national and local health organizations such as the American Health Association and American Cancer Society to women and girls in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

4) To provide a forum for hearing and Deaf women in the professional community to come and share their expertise on health topics.
